A Famous Day in History
On September 11th 2001 Seventy Seven were formed.
This day saw lead singer Kevin Birchall along with brothers Chris and Dave Oates have their first practice. A drummer, Matt Holliday, and 2nd guitar, Steve Fisher, were added for the 2nd rehearsal to take place. The band was set and after several practices the band performed their first live show at Woodseats Club, Sheffield. Although the band received great feedback Dave Oates decided to move on therefore a new member and 2nd guitarist was introduced to the band, Ed Piper.
77 now felt ready to start touring Sheffield on a regular basis. They spent the next 4 years performing live up and down the country, but mainly in Yorkshire. After this period of time the band came to a halt when members decided to leave due to personal reasons, however, Kevin and Chris were determined to continue the legacy of 77. The pair reformed the band and brought in 17 year old drummer, Doug Daly and two new guitarists Kareem Al Nagar and Kyle Birchall (Kevin's son). Kareem was only playing with the band on a temporary basis therefore after a few gigs Ed Daly (Doug's brother) joined the group.
This group was fresh, young and exciting and 77 were booked constantly to gig in front of large crowds.
Once again, some of the younger band members decided to move on and begin writing their own material in 2012. Wishing them good luck, Chris and Kevin were now left without a band but after a chat they decided to give it one last go and advertised for a drummer and guitarist. Less than a week later their calls were answered when Chris “Tiff” Boormann and Alan “Ibbo” Ibbotson joined the band.
Since then things have been progressing really nicely; long may they continue !
